Baring It All Sexual appeal and feminine appeal in women`s sports.

is not uncommon that female sportspersons advertise their sport using sexy appeal. Track, tennis, golfers, volleyball players and even racecar drivers have employed their appearances to draw attention and attention through wearing inappropriate clothes, posing for magazines, or appearing in commercials that feature their attractive appearance or performing. Sexploitation has had a significant impact on society. All ages are aware that female athletes are using various marketing strategies, media, social media, etc., to make themselves known as athletes through their sex appeal and physical appearance. This poses a challenge for the general public because children particularly admire the athletes and could have a different idea of being an athlete.

The media primarily critique female athletes based on the shape and appearance of their bodies and not their performance as athletes. Certain sports, both male and female, typically use identical clothing. For example, in track, both males and women must wear body-conforming outfits made of light-weight material. The lack of fabric helps athletes perform better since it allows them to be more aerodynamic and less friction. One might be surprised to see that while women and men wear short briefs, females sport very thin, bikini-like bikinis, while men sport tight tanks. If women were as naked as they could, why would the males wear shirts? Doesn’t it make them more efficient? It is reasonable to think that male track athletes will do this to increase their sex appeal. Other sports also have this concern.

The dress code for beach volleyball is different between females and males. Beach volleyball athletes who are male wear shorts and, occasionally, singlets, while “women are required to play in bikini bottoms and bra-style tops that do not exceed six centimetres wide at the hips”. Be aware of the purpose of athletic uniforms, which are the clothing worn when playing a sport to help athletes move quickly. “Women’s beach volleyball has introduced uniforms intentionally to focus attention on the athletes’ bodies rather than for any technological, practical or performance-enhancing reasons” (Australian Sports Commission).

The exploitation of uniforms and media can put athletes in an uncomfortable situation. For some athletes such as Anna Kournikova, her sex appeal is a big help. Even though she’s never been a winner of a tennis event but she is among the most famous tennis players due to the provocative uniforms and sexual appeal she communicates in the media. But, the well-known Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain were ridiculed for slapping off their shirts to expose the sports bra after their team was victorious. It’s not logical that they were criticized for doing that since they were wearing barely any clothes, and isn’t that the kind of thing that people and the media would want to be able to see? There have been many controversial issues due to sporting attire and exploitation. “Research shows that girls begin to withdraw from sports in alarming numbers as they reach the 12–14 age range. It also suggests that the primary reason behind young girls avoiding sports is their self-esteem issues during a vulnerable stage of transition to adulthood. Clothing that is restrictive, such as brief, revealing skirts and bulky, heavy school uniforms are cited as the main reason that girls aren’t willing to play on the field during the lunch break.” ( Australian Sports Commission) The Australian Sports Commission should be mindful of the different body types and how distinct the uniforms differ from regular clothing when creating the guidelines to dress for school.

Most people would admit that sex appeal is not enough to create an impressive sporting career, but they will also say it’s a helpful strategy to promote activity. In the last couple of decades, the sports market has grown in terms of competition, and as a result, strategies used to promote sex appeal have also grown. Executives make use of sex appeal to achieve a variety of reasons. The primary reason is to encourage players’ sexuality, which is essential for gaining attention and financial backing. Second, the sport’s increasing popularity and its players and promotional products include everything from socks to personal hygiene.

Women are, after all, fond of showing off their bodies and being more powerful than men and have now been able to get the media’s attention in the same way as males. Women who put in the effort to develop their bodies while playing in a sport ought to have the right to be proud of their physiques. What do you think of an architect being who is slammed for showing off a gorgeous structure? Then why is it that selling sex appeal make people angry?

The usual belief is that females should compete in their abilities, not just their looks. Still, famous athletes are usually those who possess the traits that are natural or acquired, such as strength and agility and endurance required to excel in physical athletics, especially in competitions of the highest level. I’m adamant that they should be able to compete with athletes if they can be exceptional athletes and look stunning!

What’s so wrong and disgusting regarding a photo of a gorgeous, strong woman displaying her body? Is it possible that people are afraid of women becoming the same sports stars as men? In all honesty, if men looked attractive in skimpy clothing, I’m sure they’d wear the same. In addition, if guys desire to see sexy and naked women, they could be better off watching an R-rated film or purchasing magazines to satisfy their desires. There is no doubt that promoting sexuality over talent is not a good idea. Still, again, most women who play sports and are featured on national television have exceptional talent.
